LA VERDAD short-analysis: The Kurds- a challenge for Turkey

T he Kurds have been living in that Anatolian region long before the Ottoman or the Seljuq Empire was erected there – they conquered that region around 1000 AC - but side by side with some Turkish speaking groups that were already living there. From a moral perspective and regarding self-governess, I presume, that it is not unimportant who has lived there first and maybe has been conquered by another force, which, thirdly, maybe imposes their will which might be a bad one on that very group of people who came first. A own language is a characteristic which, in my opinion, supports the idea of an own sovereign country too. Maybe the Kurds did not really come first but certainly they were, just as Orthodox Christians or Jews, swallowed by the Turks. However, as long as they did pay tribute they were given religious liberty, when converting to Islam they had equal rights, in the past and now enjoy all liberties as Turks within Turkey as long as they do not want to create their own independent state. So, regarding Turkey, the creation of a Kurdish country on Turkish/old Turkish Ottoman territory might be not justified.
